Motion Picture Director. He is most noted for the pictures "Fear Strikes Out" (1957), "To Kill a Mockingbird" (1962, for which he received an Academy Award-nomination), and "Summer of '42" (1971). Born in New York City, he was educated at Fordham University before beginning his career in television during the early 1950s. Among his other big screen credits are "The Rat Race" (1960), "The Great Imposter" (1961), "The Spiral Road" (1962), "Love with the Proper Stranger" (1963), "Baby the Rain Must Fall" (1965), "Inside Daisy Clover" (1965), "Up the Down Staircase" (1967), "The Stalking Moon" (1968), "The Pursuit of Happiness" (1971), "The Other" (1972), "The Nickel Ride" (1974), "Same Time, Next Year" (1978), "Kiss Me Goodbye" (1982), "Clara's Heart" (1988) and "The Man in the Moon" (1991). His television credits include "Goodyear Television Playhouse", "Suspense", "Studio One" and "The DuPont Show of the Month". He was the older brother of actor Richard Mulligan. He died from heart disease.
