FUNKE - On November 28, at Woodville (suddenly); Charles August, eldest son of the late Carl August Funke of Panmure, aged 72
The death occurred suddenly at his residence in Ferguson street on Wednesday evening, of Mr Carl August Funke, at the age of 76 years. Deceased had been suffering for some time past from heart trouble and upon retiring on Wednesday evening collapsed suddenly. The late Mr Funke, who was born in Essex, England, came to New Zealand 60 years ago, arriving at Auckland on December 26 1874. After residing at Panmure for a number of years he went to Napier and in 1908 he came to Woodville and commenced business as a butcher. Since 1918 Mr Funke had been living in retirement. He was a bowler and a prominent member of the Masonic Lodge. A widow, four brothers and a sister are left to mourn their loss.
