Sister: Sarah Yaser Said

Amina Said was a promising young Egyptian-American high school student living her life like any other American teen would. The daughter of Yaser Abel, an Egyptian father who is Muslim and Patricia, an American mother who is Christian, Amina along with her sister Sarah were bright students with a promising future. Like any other young girl coming of age, Amina, a senior at Lewisville High School in Lewisville, Texas (their brother Islam, also attended the school) was interested in school activities such as pep rallies and student clubs. She was also fostering a positive personal relationship with another male student at school, which apparently brought anger and resentment to her strict father.

With a tendency of being very verbal and violent, the girls' father, Yaser Abdel Said, was not tolerant of his daughters' wanting to live the American Dream and not be forced into arrange marriages as many young women in the Middle East are forced into. In a fit of rage, Mr. Said took both Amina and her sister Sarah for a drive on Tuesday, January 1, 2008. He told them that he wanted to take them out for a bite to eat, however, in what police classify as an "honor death" related crime, Mr. Said shot both of his daughters in the backseat of his car and disappeared into thin air. With this honor death, Mr. Said preferred to see his daughters dead rather than bring shame to his family for living their lives like any normal American teenager. This barbaric act which goes against the teachings of Islam, is still practiced in many Middle Eastern societies. Although there are laws that prohibit "honor death" in many Middle Eastern nations, there are some areas where Sharia law is prevalent and where the practice is tolerated.

UPDATE: Yaser Abdel Said was arrested by federal agents on August 26, 2020 in Justin, Texas. After 12 years on the run, Amina and Sarah will finally have justice! Also arrested were Islam Said (brother of the victims) and Yaser Said's brother. Both will be charged for harboring a fugitive and can face up to five years in federal prison if convicted.

The double homicide has been featured in an episode of the long running FOX network show "America's Most Wanted."

Amina and Sarah are the subject of the 2014 documentary "The Price of Honor," which discuss their lives and tragic death. The film can be viewed via Amazon Prime.
