OBITUARY - Ellen O'Neill
It is with deep regret we announce the death of Mrs John O'Neil nee Ellen Burlace, who, after a brief illness, passed away on Saturday morning. Death, which comes tenderly to the old is, in seeming, less kind when it visits so unexpectedly the young in the heyday of life. The late Mrs O'Neil was still a bride, for it is little over a fortnight since she was married. She was in Wellington on her wedding trip when she became ill and after two days was brought back to her mother's home in Papatawa, where she died after an illness of barely a week.
The circumstances make the occurrence tragic and it is sympathy not unmixed with awe that goes out from the whole community to the grieving relatives, to the so sadly bereft parents as well as to the bridegroom, whose hopes only the other day were so high.

FUNERAL OF THE LATE Mrs O'NEILL
Business was again suspended for a moment on Monday, when one of the largest funerals ever seen in Woodville passed through Vogel Street on it way from Papatawa to the cemetery. The pathetic incidents attending the death of the late Mrs O'Neill, the widespread sympathy for her family and the general sorrow felt for the loss of her bright young personality, made this an especially touching procession. A number of cars and other vehicles brought distant mourners and the cortege was joined in town by members of the church and other friends. Very beautiful wreaths and crosses were laid on the coffin. The Rev Abernethy read the service.

IN MEMORIAM In cherished remembrance of Ella O'Neil, dearly loved daughter of J. and E. J. Burlace, who passed away July 8th 1916
Though daughter kind and true,
Death cannot from our minds efface
Her tender smile, her loving face.
Her words, her actions are not dead,
But in our minds are daily read.
In loving memory our dear sister Ella O'Neil, who died July 8th 1916
'Tis hard to break the tender cord,
When love has bound the heart
'Tis hard so hard to speak the word,
We for a time must part
