Nella Larsen Imes (best known as Nella Larsen) was a biracial American authoress and nurse.
She was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1891 of a Danish white immigrant mother and a black father from the West Indies, who abandoned her mother and her when Nella was a baby.
She went on to author two books: "Quicksand" and "Passing", the first of which was about her own life to some extent, and her struggles in trying to find racial identification.∼Nella Larsen (April 13 1891 – March 30 1964),
