Jane was the daughter of Robert Marshall (1772-1832) and Elizabeth "Betsy" (Fitzsimmons) Marshall (1778-1830). She grew up on a farm in Dublin Township between Shade Gap and Burnt Cabins. She married a year after her father passed away (she's mentioned in his will). However, she is often confused as the daughter of Robert's brother William and Rachel (McElroy) Marshall. Robert's parents James and Lydia (Carson) Marshall, together with several of their children moved to Trumbell County, Ohio around 1810.
