Services for Thelma Bailey, 86, of Anadarko will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Anadarko with the Rev. Clarence Spradlin, pastor of the College Heights Baptist Church in Chickasha, officiating ant the Rev. Keith Russell, pastor, assisting.

Mrs. Bailey was was born Feb. 5, 1904 in Eakly and died Tuesday at the Christian Care Retirement Village in Chickasha. She taught third grade classes at East Elementary School in Anadarko for 21 years before retiring in 1968. Before coming to Anadarko in 1947, she taught eight years in a two room school called Roach, one year at Broxton, three years in Grady county in a two room school called Old Trail and then at another two room school on Sugar Creek. She attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Central State University in Edmond, Ok. She was a life member of the Oklahoma Education Association and a member of the Arts and Humanities Council, Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority and the Tulip Rose Garden Club, having served two terms as the club's president. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Anadarko. She was a noted painter who had received numerous ribbons at the Caddo County Free Fair. She taught art classes in Anadarko after she retired and her paintings were exhibted in shows in Oklahoma and Texas.

She was married March 27, 1927 in Oklahoma City to Paul Bailey. Her husband, who died Nov. 1, 1985, was an educator for 43 years and a former principal of Sunset Elementary School in Anadarko. She was also preceded in death by her parents, James Woodson and Emma Lou (Jesse) Beal.

Survivors include one son, Jimmy Beal of Torance, Calif.; one brother, Earl Beal of Grass Valley, Calif.; and one granddaughter.
