George Lancaster Dies of Illness At Idaho Falls
Hiram George Lancaster, 81, Smoot farmer and Star Valley pioneer, died Monday night, July 11 in an Idaho Falls hospital after an illness. He had been hospitalized for several weeks.
Juneral services were conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Smoot Ward Chapel under the direction of the ward bishopric. Burial was in the Afton Cemetery.

Services Held for George Lancaster
Funeral services were conducted Thursday July 14 in the Smoot Ward LDS Chapel for Hyrum George Lancaster, 80, for many years a farmer-rancher in Smoot who died July 11 of causes incident to age at an Idaho Falls hospital. He had been ill for several weeks.
Burial was in the Afton Cemetery.
He was born Dec 28, 1879 at Sandy Utah the son of Hyrum and Mary Ann Goff Lancaster. He spent his early life in Sandy working at the Minto smelter, and later at Germania and U.S. Smelters. On accont of his health he gave up smelter work, and in 1913 moved to Draper, Utah. where he took up farming. In 1917 he moved to star valley localed in Smoot, where he again took up ranching. He still owned and operated his farm at time of his death.
He married Emma Retta Brown Dec 18, 1907 in Salt Lake City. The marriage ws solemnized March 7, 1912 in Salt Lake Temple.
An active church worker, he served many years as a ward teacher and also a number of years in the Smoot Ward Sunday School Superintendency. He was a high priest at the time of his death, and had been an interested temple worker.
He served as president of a cattle association for 15 years. He was an ardent barker of the movement to manufacture swiss cheese in Star Valley when it was organized, and offered to mortgage his cattle to help finance the venture.
Friends and relatives knew him as an honest and dependable hard working man, who was well informed on world affairs and on political trends.He was active in the LDS Church Welfare Program of the Smoot Ward and promoted many worthy projects. He was a student of the gospel and knew it well. Generous by nature he always gave more than his share when asked to contribute to a worthy cause.
He is survived by his wife, Retta Lancaster, Smoot; two sons Elmer Lancaster, Freedom, Wyo. and Leo Lancaster, Smoot; two brothers, Willard afton and Arthur, Crescent, Utah; three sisters Mary Hardcastle Sandy, Utah, Florence Sjoblom, Midvale, Utah and Grace snow, Lincoln, Calif.
