Martha Jane Cruikshank Ginader:
- Mrs. Ginader, age 87, died Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at her residence at Plantation Estates in Matthews, NC. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 20, 2008 in Forest Lawn East Cemetery in Weddington, NC. The Reverend Larry Watts will officiate. Mr. Dave McKenzie will accompany with bagpipes.
- Marty was born April 23, 1921 in Leipsic, OH to John Clarence Cruikshank andGertrude Bell Cruikshank.
- On June 28, 1942 in Albuquerque, NM, she married Wilbur Jonathan 'Bill' Ginader of Cleveland, OH, where Mr. Ginader was stationed with the Army Air Corps as a Warrant Officer during WWII. He preceded her in death on February 14, 2001.
- Marty graduated from high school in Columbus Grove, OH, and attendedMiami University in Oxford, OH, where she joined Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. She served in the Army Air Corps Personnel Office during WWII when she and Bill were stationed in Albuquerque, NM and, later, in Carlsbad, NM. After the war in 1946, they moved to Chattanooga, TN, where Mr. Ginader was employed by Provident Life & Accident Insurance Co. While living there, Marty volunteered in innumerous capacities while maintaining her duties as a wife and mother. Mr. Ginader's company transferred the family to Charlotte in 1954. Over the years Marty was a volunteer Girl Scout leader, Civil Defense Monitor, Gray Lady with the American Red Cross, a Precinct Election Judge for Mecklenburg County, a member of the Charity League, First United Methodist Church, the Mint Museum of Art, Friends of the Mint,the Harris YMCA, The Charlotte City Club and Carmel Country Club. Books and music were two of her greatest loves and she was quite an accomplished organist and pianist as well as a master of the accordion in her early years. In her later years,reading became a passion and her yard, with its many flowers and birds, was her daily joy. She and Bill had traveled the world together where she so enjoyed learning about other cultures.
- Marty is survived by a daughter, Judith Ginader Truesdail and her husband,George, of Gordonsville, VA; a son, Stephen Jonathan Ginader of Valle Crucis, NC and fiance, Margaret Ford Lynn of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Truesdail of New York, New York; Joshua David Truesdail of Cary, NC; and Katherine Lorraine Ginader of Asheville, NC; a sister, Betty Cruikshank Krukenberg and her husband, John, of Lima, OH; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
- In addition to her husband, Marty was preceded in death by her father in 1953 and her mother (age 103) in December of 2001.
- In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC28204 or Matthews Help Center, P.O. Box 91, 119 James Street, Matthews, NC 28106.
- Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington Chapel is serving the family of Mrs.Ginader.
