Services Thursday for 50 Year Club member

VALLEY -- Mr. George Frank Adams, 92, of Valley died Saturday, April 30, 2005 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.

Memorial services are scheduled Thursday, May 5 at 11 a.m. at Langdale United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roger Thompson officiating.

Mr. Adams is survived by a sister-in-law, Cornelia Whaley Adams of Sarasota, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

A WestPoint Stevens 50-Year Club Member, Mr. Adams was born Sept. 27, 1912 in Chambers County to the late Bessie Lane Adams and Otis O. Adams. He began his employment with the company at Langdale Mill on Sept. 29, 1926 as general help in the weave department. Mr. Adams continued at the mill in various capacities, including weaver, loom fixer, shift supervisor in the weave department and as cost clerk in the office until September 1946 when transferred to the company's standards department in West Point as a job analyst.

In June 1948, he returned to Langdale Mill as head of fabric development and specifications then became department head of overhauling in December 1949 and acting overseer of weaving in November 1952. In October 1953, Mr. Adams joined the company's research organization in Shawmut as a research engineer in the processing department then in March 1958, he moved back to Langdale Mill where he served as manager of the production department, overseer of the preparatory department and quality control supervisor until May 1967.

At that time, he transferred to the corporate offices as safety coordinator for the company. In November 1974, Mr. Adams was named auditor of safety and OSHA, located with the employee benefits and services department at personnel services center in Shawmut, His grandfather, mother, father, wife, brother and sister worked for the company. He was inducted into the WestPoint Stevens 50-Year Club in 1976.

Mr. Adams was a former member of Langdale Baptist Church (Valley First Baptist) where he actively served as a deacon and teacher of the adult men's Bible class. He was currently a member of Langdale United Methodist Church. Mr. Adams was also a member of the American Legion, the Chambers County Pension and Security Committee and the American Society of Safety Engineers. He enjoyed sports and yard work.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Peggy D. Adams.
