Last Rites Held Here Saturday For L. H. (Herb) Bell

Last rites for L. H. (Herb) Bell, 74, retired merchant and longtime active church and fraternal leader of Honey Grove, were held here Saturday. Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the First Christian Church with the church pastor, the Rev. Edwin W. Gorom as officiant. Honey Grove Ledge o. 164, A. B. & A. M. conducted Masonic committal rites in Oakwood Cemetery. Cooper-Sorrells was in charge of arrangement.

Pallbearers were Staley Seale, Marvin Ford, Pat Dougherty, Alvin Fields, Henry Wayne Covington and J. Hammack.

He died Thursday, February 20, 1968, in McCuistion Community Hospital in Paris following a two weeks' illness.

Luther Herbert Bell was born here February 26, 1894, the son of the late William B.and Hollie Adkins Bell.

He was an active member of the First Christian Church and the Everyman's Sunday School class there and the church choir.

Long active in Masonic circles, he was past master of the Honey Grove Masonic lodge; past district deputy grand master; active in the Royal Arch and Council Masonic bodies and also an active member and past patron of the Honey Grove Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.

An Odd Fellow for many years, he was active and had held several offices in the Honey Grove Odd Fellow lodge and in the Honey Grove Rebekahs Lodge.

He was married to the former Miss Susan Cook. She preceded him in death in 1953.

Survivors include a son, Dan Bell of Houston; three grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Pirtle of Dallas and a brother, Ed Bell of Dora, New Mexico.
