Funeral services for Arlene Everman, 77, of Castalia, were Thursday, Dec. 11, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia. Reverend Dave L. Lenth officiated. Inurnment will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Castalia at a later date. Arlene died Sunday, Dec. 7, at her home near Castalia.

Arlene Ellen (Engelhardt) Everman was born Jan. 23, 1931, to Edwin H. and Anna (Stee) Engelhardt, on a farm near Monona. She was baptized March 15, 1931, in the Norwegian Lutheran Church at Ossian. Arlene received her education in the Castalia School through the eighth grade and then attended Postville High School.

Nov. 29, 1948, Arlene married Leon Charles Everman in the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia. They had three children and farmed most of their lives in the Castalia area. Arlene had been employed at a restaurant in Calmar and John's Hardware in Postville.

Arlene's greatest love was for her family. She enjoyed visiting with her friends, the members of her ladies club and the card clubs. Arlene had many interests, among them were sewing, gardening and flowers and bird watching, especially the cardinals, and when she had time, to watch her favorite TV programs. Arlene was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia and the Women of the ELCA. She had served as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher, and was on the Altar Guild. Arlene was a member of the bowling league in Postville.

She is survived by her children: Byron (Sandy) Everman, Castalia, Luann Everman (friend Randy), Memphis, Mo.; six grandchildren: Dr. Wesley Everman, East Lansing, Mich., Anthony Everman, Jonesboro, Ark., Lexie Everman, Cedar Falls, Brandie (Jason) Karfonta, Halethorpe, Md., Luther Haberichter, Clever, Mo., Amy (Jed) Ward, ElDorado, Kan.; one great-grandchild: Jackson Ward; one sister: JoAnn O'Hara, Decorah; two brothers: Ed (Nancy) Engelhardt, Luana, and Roger (Carol) Engelhardt, Clermont; sister-in-law: Lois Everman, Doniphan, Mo.; brother-in-law: Robert Brandt, Decorah; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband: Leon; a son: Bruce; her parents; her father and mother-in-law: Fred and Lena Everman; a sister: Marlus Brandt; brother-in-law: Leo O'Hara; brother-in-law and sister-in-law,: Leslie and Jeanette Anderson; and two nephews, Stan Anderson and Scott O'Hara.
