Nels J. Anderson was born in Rya, Hörja socken Kristianstad Län, Skåne County, Sweden, in 1869, the son of Anna Månsdotter and Anders Jacobson. Anders passed away when his son was only eight years old, making Nels responsible for helping his mother care for his younger four brothers and sisters. On April 27, 1894, Nels landed in Boston Harbor and came directly to Stromsburg, Nebraska. Once there, he made his home with the August Peterson family, who were friends from Sweden. Christina Carlson was born in Berga Småland, Sweden in 1870, the daughter of Sophia and Carl Peterson. She sailed to New York City in May of 188 with her brother, August Carlson. Christina and August traveled to Stromsburg, where they took up residence with their brother, John P .
Carlson. While attending the Covenant Church in Stromsburg, Nels and Christina met. They were married in 1897 at the home of John P. Carlson. During their lifetime, Nels and Christina Anderson built and lived in two different homes in Stromsburg. Their daughter and son-in-law, Vivian and Wilmer Anderson, later made their family home in one of the two houses. During his lifetime, Nels Anderson's main occupation was in the draying business. He served for a number of years as Street Commissioner of Stromsburg. Nels worked until his health began to fail, and passed away on July 16,1948. Christina was a homemaker. She passed away on April 19, 1956. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson were both lifelong members of the Stromsburg Covenant Church. Nels and
Christina Anderson had four daughters. The four daughters were Anna (Mrs. Alfred Swanson), Lillian (Mrs. Arthur Carlson), Esther (Mrs. Vincent Anderson), and Vivian (Mrs. Wilmer Anderson). Vivian still lives in Stromsburg. Other members of Vivian's family who still reside in the Stromsburg area are Vivian's daughter Mary (Mrs. Marvin) Wadell and her granddaughter Kerstin. Several of Lillian's family also live in the Stromsburg area. They are daughter Elaine (Mrs. Paul) Anderson, son Darwin Carlson, granddaughter Paula (Mrs. Steve) Oquist, grandson Steven Anderson, and great-grandchildren Megan and Andrew Oquist.
