MILITARY Civil War 1861-1865 Cited in Barton Roll of Honor, compiled by Carl James Barton, first Ed. 2001 "CSA. Enlisted on 12 July 1862 in Buchaman, Texas at the age of 22 for a term of three years. He traveled 65 miles to enlist and his horse was valued at $200.00 and equipment at $30.00 Served as a Private in Captain Samuel Caruther's Company, 1st Regiment Texas Partisans, which later became Company E, 30th Texas Calvary, AKA Gurley's Regiment Partisan Rangers. He appears on the muster roll for July and August 1863. (REF: CSMR, Broadfoot's Roster of CSA Soldiers, pg 421, & Pension Application #15059) (pg453)"
