Raymond was the seventh of eight children. He graduated from Fairview High School in Mountaintop, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. On September 11, 1954, he married Lois Rinehimer, and they raised two children: George and Jane. He was employed by Interstate Dress Carriers and for Sand-Vik Corp. and Cornell Iron Works as a driver.
