Steve Bird, a farmer and rancher and believed to be the last living Hood County World War I veteran, died Monday at a Granbury nursing home. He was 100. Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Martin's Funeral Home in Granbury. Burial will be in Holly Hills Memorial Park.
Mr. Bird was born in Hood County and was a lifelong resident. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Thorp Spring.
Survivors: Wife, Bessie Mae Bird of Granbury; three daughters, Colleen Rhoades of Granbury, Pauleen Marrs of Kopperl and Norma Lurene Anderson of Fort Worth; sister, Ottie Collins; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
