Husband of Martha M. (nee Stille) Larkin for more than 62 years; father of James (Sandra) Larkin III, Bruce (Sheryl) Larkin, David (Jodell) Larkin, and Richard (Patricia) Larkin, all residing in St. Charles County; brother of Lloyd M. Larkin of Rumson, NJ., and the late Edward H. Larkin and grandfather of nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

He served in the Army Air Corp in World War II as a Navigator, achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant. After graduating from the University of Missouri, Jim was employed at Monsanto Company for 35 years, starting in 1948 as a chemical engineer and retiring from his career as a National Sales Manager.

Jim (J.C.) was a lifelong community volunteer in many capacities. He was a 60-Year Member of the Boy Scouts of America, serving on every adult position at the Troop and District levels and many council positions, including Chairman of the Silver Arrow Club. He received many awards and honors, including the Vigil Honor (Order of the Arrow), Silver Beaver, Woodbadge, and the Boone (Spellman) Award. He was a member of St. Louis Eagle Scout Association, served as Chairman of the Eagle Board of Review, and presented countless Eagle awards to recipients throughout the area. He also co-chaired the St. Charles County Charter Commission, helped to draft a Long-Range Plan for St. Charles County, and served on the St. Charles County Waste Management Commission, and in 1993 Jim received the St. Charles County Humanitarian of the Year Award. In addition he actively participated in Masonic Lodge #241, serving as Past Master in 1994, Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Freemasons, Moolah Shrine Temple, Past President-Daniel Boone Shrine Club, and Eastern Star Chapter #152. Jim also volunteered with the VFW, St. Charles County Cancer Committee, St Charles Presbyterian Church, and he served on the St. Charles Federal Savings and Loan Board of Directors and as President of St. Charles Country Club.
