Martha Bernice Shackelford Adcock, 90, of Decatur, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at her residence.

She was past matron of Eastern Star 159 in Athens, and was a member of Decatur First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Noah Ernest and Jennie Betty Davis Shackelford; her husband, John Taylor "Jack" Adcock II; two brothers, Chester Ernest Shackelford and Kenneth K. Shackelford; and one sister, Beaulah Elaine Skeen.

Survivors include one son, John Taylor Adcock III of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty Elaine "Sissy" and Walt Henley of Decatur; six grandchildren, Devra Bostic, Sherri Edwards, Eddie Jewell, Jack Adcock, Rodney Adcock and Vickie Adcock; 11 great-grandchildren, Wes Bostic, Troy Bostic, Kari Edwards, Brittany Edwards, Austin Jewell, Autumn Jewell, Taylor Adcock, Gabrielle Adcock, Toni Ann Adcock, Amber Adcock and Ashley Adcock; and one great-great-grandchild, Baylee Thomas.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Sunday at Decatur First Baptist Church with the Rev. Craig Dale and the Rev. Jimmy McCarter officiating. Burial followed in Decatur Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Sammy Norton, Willard Plank, Ralph Jarvis, Mike Shackelford, Kenny Shackelford and Bobby Roberts. Honorary pallbearers were Herman Creasman, Dee McKenzie and Larry Reed.

The family received friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Bowers Funeral Home of Decatur was in charge of arrangements.
