Mary Ann "Mamie" Hunsaker, 82, longtime Osmond and Afton resident died Monday, Feb 14, 1977, of causes incident to age at her home in Afton.
Funeral services were scheduled Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Afton Second-Third Ward Chapel, with Bp. Lynn M. Nield of the Third Ward conducting, with burial in the Afton Cemetery.
She was born Oct 6, 1894 at Fielding, Utah, to James and Mary Ann Graham Bowcutt. She spent her childhood in Utah, were as a member of a polygamist family she learned love and hard work early. Her mother was a pioneer midwife, and Mamie was left responsible for the family and a boarding house often, besides working with her brothers and sisters on the farm. Her father was a salesman and was away much of the time.
She was married to Allen G. Hunsaker June 12, 1912 in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in Utah and her husband worked in a sugar factory. After a few years they decided to do some pioneering into Wyoming where Allen had worked in his youth, and moved to Star Valley in May 1918, with three children, settling in Osmond. Four other children were born to them bu one, Thelma, died in infancy.
Three of their sons and one son-in-law all served their country honorably in combat duty during World War II.
Mamie was an active member of the LDS Church and held many positions in the various organizations. Many years were spent working on a genealogical committee, both for the Osmond Ward and Star Valley Stake. Mamie and Allen were in charge of the stake baptisms for the dead, during which about 32,000 baptisms were done.
The Hunsakers were instrumental in organizing the Lincoln County Farm Bureau and worked many years with this organization. Mamie was committee chairwoman for the Republican Party in Lincoln county for many years.
Mamie was talented in household arts, and made many quilts, crocheted articles, made glitter pictures and was an excellent cook. She and Allen were always active in ward asocial affairs and won prize waltz contests. In later years she enjoyed her family and friends and appreciated their visits and concern.
Survivors include her husband, Afton; sons and daughters, Allen Leroy and Floyd B. Hunsaker, Afton; Mrs Boyd (Audry) Lainhart, Afton; Melvin J. Hunsaker, Provo, Utah; E Sterling Hunsaker, Honolulu, Hawaii and Mrs vernal (Ruby) Parsons, victor, Idaho 40 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters Mrs Alex (Della) Gleed, Malad, Idaho; Ray Bowcut, Virgin, Utah; Mrs Otis (Gladys) Atkinson, Ogden, Utah; Truman Bowcutt, Rigby, Idaho; Mrs Al (Iola) Montgemery, Belleview, Idaho and Mrs Lewis E. (Bessie) Sherman, Hailey, Idaho.
Preceding her in death were one daughter, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
