Funeral services for Jack Gillan, 52, of Oak were held Wednesday, July 14, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Community Church in Oak. Duane Egle officiated. Burial, with military rites, was in the Edgar Cemetery. Urbauer Funeral Home, Davenport, was in charge.

Gillan, manager of Oak Grain Company, died Sunday, July 11. He was a member of the Nelson VFW and Ruskin American Legion.

Surviving are his widow, Donna; daughters, Barbara Gillian and Cheryl Wilson, both of Omaha and Terri Gillan of Oak; brother, Claude of Ft. Collins, Colorado; sisters, Hazel Widener of Bremerton, Washington, Mrs. Gerald (Darlene) Fraka of Pico Rivera, California, Mrs. Harold (Betty) Struss of Juniata and Mrs. Harry (Ruby) Snyder of Oak.

Wendall Jack Gillan was born January 20, 1924 at Oak, Nebraska to Edward and Pearl Gillan and passed away in Thayer County Hospital in Hebron, Nebraska on July 11, 1976 at the age of 52 years, 5 months and 22 days.

He was united in marriage to Donna Lou Anderson on February 24, 1950 at Oak, Nebraska. Mr. and Mrs. Gillan observed their 25th wedding anniversary on February 24, 1965. Their family and friends enjoyed the day with them.

Those who are sorrowed by his passing are his wife, Donna Lou; three daughters, Barbara Kay and Cheryl Ann of Omaha, Nebraska, and Terri Sue at home; one brother, Claude Gillan of Fort Collins, Colorado; four sisters, Hazel Widener, Bremerton, Washington, Mrs. Harry (Ruby) Snyder, Oak, Nebraska, Mrs. Jerry (Darlene) Fraka, Pico Rivera, California, and Mrs. Harold (Betty) Struss, Juniata, Nebraska; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Pearl Gillan; one daughter, Linda Sue; two sisters, Mildred and Ada Belle; and one brother, Harold.

Jack served in the United States Army from February 25, 1943 through October 28, 1945 with 3 months and 15 days overseas. During his tour of serve he was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation for 43rd Infantry Division, Philippines Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star and a Purple Heart.

He was a member of the Nelson V.F.W. and the Ruskin American Legion. He worked as manager of Oak Grain Company and served his community as Mayor of Oak.

Funeral services were Wednesday, July 14, 1976 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Community Church in Oak, Nebraska, Duane Egle officiating. Music was "Crossing the Bar" with Artha Scroggin, organist. Casketbearers were Dennis Gillan, Michael Anderson, Darrell Harrington, Alvin Anderson, Gary Siemmick, LeeRoy Miller, Scott Gillan and Gerald Snyder. Military rites and burial were at the Edgar Cemetery, Edgar, Nebraska. Urbauer Funeral Home of Davenport was in charge of arrangements.
