Private, Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment based in Gagetown, New Brunswick. Aged 21, he was from Baie Verte, Newfoundland. He was deployed with the Canadian contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.

He was killed with Cpl Thomas Hamilton and Pte John Curwin, and another soldier injured, after a roadside bomb detonated near their armoured vehicle during a security patrol in the Arghandab District approximately 14 kilometres west of Kandahar City.

Pte Jones enlisted in the military in October 2006. Known for his kindness, he also enjoyed playing the guitar and driving his pickup truck. He had been back home to Newfoundland just over a week before he died to celebrate an early Christmas, his grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary and his own 21st birthday. He is survived by his parents, Anthony and Rowena Jones; grandparents Raymond and Genevieve Jones and Philip and Lillian Verge; girlfriend, Kayla Madsen; extended family and many friends.

A total of 103 soldiers and one diplomat have died since Canada first sent troops to Afghanistan in 2002.
