Willie A. "Gus" Day, 69, of Cartersville, passed away Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008 at his residence. Born in Cherokee County on October 8, 1939, he was the son of the late Ralph Day and Hazel Abernathy Day. Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife, Mary Geneva Lee Day; and his step-father, Jake Howell.

Gus was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church in Canton and was a mechanic by trade. He was a farmer on an acre of land and grew an 8 lb. sweet potato this year. He also loved spending time at the ball park.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and John Atkinson, Johnnie and Ricky Blasengame, and Candice and Mark Wall, all of Cartersville; his son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Amy Day of White; eight grandchildren, Lee Blasengame, Nicole Blasengame, Zachary Day, Morgan Day, Michael Webb, Caytlin Seely, John Atkinson, and Levi Atkinson; one great-grandchild, Kasidee Geneva Wall; and his siblings, Dillard Howell, Gene Howell, Carol Hight, Donald Howell, Riley Day, Michael Day, and Bonnie Day, all of Cartersville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Fred Lee, Rev. Mike Ware and Rev. Dan Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Old Bethany Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Wayne Pruitt, Todd Pruitt, Joe Vandall, Eddie Mullinax, Josh Thomas, Ronnie Harris, and Gary Harris. These gentlemen are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
