Mr. Yates was born April 9, 1933 to the late James and Martha Yates. He was a beloved husband and father who was a well known Bluegrass musician, playing in the Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. area for more than 50 years. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Air Force, retiring from Davison Airfield in Ft. Belvoir, Va.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Nova Yates; his children, Lee Goswellen and her husband, William, of Stafford, Melissa Hutcheson, of Warrenton; his brother, Bill Yates, of Spotsylvania; his sister, Ruth Brown, of Spotsylvania; his grand-children, William Wayne Vipraio, Kristin Michele Vipraio, Kelsey Noel Hutcheson, Courtney Dawn Hutcheson, Kimberly Ann Hutcheson and one great- grandchild, William Anthony Vipraio.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, Va. where services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 17, 2008 with Dr. Thomas Gulbronson officiating. Interment will follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas.
