James Coon was born in Columbus County, Ohio, February 21, 1811, and departed this life January 23, 1897, aged 85 years, 11 months and 2 days. Deceased was married in Wisconsin in 1856 to Nina Blake, from which union were born seven daughters and two sons, all except one girl living to mourn the loss of a father. Mr. Coon moved to Iowa in 1876 where he has made his home until his death. Funeral services at the home of his son, Reese Coon, living south of Correctionville, conducted by George N. Thompson on January 24, 1897. Burial was made in the Correctionville Cemetery.
