Leander was the husband of Sarah Mandilla Kaltreider, and the son of Conrad and Salome (Stambaugh) Hamm.

Leander S. Hamm was born January 24, 1868, and died at his home, near Brodbeck's, Pa., September 19, 1945, aged 77 years, 7 months, and 25 days.
The Stone Church community lost an esteemed and useful citizen in the death of Mr. Hamm. He had spent all his life in that community and had a wide acquaintance of friends. He had lived at the same place for 53 years. He had been a member of St. Jacob's (Stone) Reformed Church for 62 years. He had been a member of the church choir for over 50 years. He was an active member of the Sunday School practically all his life, and served as its Treasurer for perhaps 40 years. He held several other church offices and was faithful in the discharge of every duty.
He had a deep and abiding faith in God. He was sincere and earnest in his religious profession. Unless providentially prevented, he never missed the services of either church or Sunday School. He practiced his faith. He had numerous business relationships all of which were creditable to him. Being possessed of a certain amount of wealth he shared its use with many who needed help. He was fair and generous in all his dealings with his fellowmen. He was a loyal and devoted friend of his pastor who had profited much by this friendship. He gave liberally to the church and all its causes. He will be missed in the life and work of the church and community. Mrs. Hamm, whose life had been devoted to the same purposes, died more than a year ago.
The funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon, September 22, 1945, from his late home, with brief services at the house, and further services at the Stone Church, where a large number of friends and relatives were in attendance. The funeral text was 2 Tim. 4:7, 8. Burial was made in the Stone Church Cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Hamm had no children themselves, but they had many nephews and nieces, and to them we extend our kindest and sincerest sympathies in the death of their uncle and friend.
