Charles enlisted in the U.S. Army on August 12, 1895 in Virginia. He was discharged on August 13, 1898. He served as a Private, Corporal and then Sergeant, in Co. B, 6th U.S. Regt., and then Co. E, 8th U.S. Infantry Regt. He died in an accident.
