AVON - Robert Robert V. Ray, 89, Avon, passed away Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at Care Center of Abingdon. He was born Aug. 25, 1919, in Avon, the son of Glen V. and Elizabeth Pippitt Ray. He married Jewel Moore in 1941; she preceded him in 1966. He later married Mary Virginia Mullhatten on Oct. 6, 1968, in Avon; she preceded him Dec. 2, 2008.
He is survived by two sons, Gary (Dixie) Ray of Abingdon and Deryl (Kathy) Ray of Gilbert, Ariz.; one daughter, Leota Ann (Sid) Bollinger of Sedgewickville, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Chance (Jean) Ray of Abingdon, Kristin Ray, Melissa (Josh) Hunt of Abingdon, Matt Ray of Bisbee, Ariz., Jake and Jesse Ray of Gilbert, Ariz., Ryan, Dan and Cole Bollinger of Sedgewickville, Mo.; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Melba (David) Snow of St. Louis, Mo., and Mary (Fred) Visel of Galesburg; six stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives and one great-grandson.
Robert served our country during WWII in the U.S. Air Force as a radio operator on a B-24 Bomber. He worked in the Avon Post Office, the Avon Drug Store and at Corman Memorial Home. He was a member of Avon United Methodist Church and Avon United Methodist Men. He was also a member of the Avon Lions Club.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Corman Memorial Home, Avon. Burial will be in Avon Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at Corman Memorial Home, Avon.
Memorials may be made to Avon United Methodist Church.
