Son of James Lafayette McDonald and Lucinda Josephine Martin (Oct 1824, Laurens Co., SC. - 07 Aug 1851 Chattooga Co., GA.)

Company D "Whitfield Volunteers", 60th Georgia Infantry, Lawton's Brigade, Ewell's Division, 2nd Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.

Residence Whitfield County, GA.; 16 years old.
Enlisted for the duration of the war on 9/19/1861 at Dalton, he was mustered into Captain Dickinson Taliaferro's Company "Whitfield Volunteers" as a Private. (This company subsequently became Company D, 60th Infantry.)
Present on all rolls until listed as Absent, "sick in Quarters" on March & April 1862 Roll.
Hospitalized for "debilitas" 8/20-9/2/1862 in C.S.A. General Hospital, Danville, VA.
Present on all rolls until listed as Absent, "sick in Hospital" on Nov & Dec 1862 Roll.
Died in camp of disease.

The 60th Infantry Regiment was organized during the spring of 1862 at Savannah, Georgia, by adding four companies to Stiles' 4th Georgia Battalion. Ths battalion had been formed during the summer of 1861 with six companies and served at Hilton Head. The men were recruited in the counties of Walker, Fannin, Whitfield, Bartow, Gilmer, and Dooly.
