Rites Held for Ella Slaugh Basin Pioneer.

Funeral services where held Monday in the Davis Ward Chapel for Sarah Ellen (Ella) Slaugh, 89, who died in the Uintah County Hospital Saturday at 2:15 a. m. of causes incident to age.

She was born October 22, 1875 in Mona, Juab County, a daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Mary Eliza Williams Johnson. She moved here with her parents at the age of 14.

She married Isaac Ivory Slaugh September 26, 1894 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died August 8, 1914 leaving her with seven small children. She was a midwife in this area for many years and brought hundreds of children into the world.

Mrs. Slaugh has been a very active member of the LDS Church.

Survivors include two sons and three daughters, Mrs. John (Emma) Smuin, Mrs. Hy (Idelia) Smuin and Angus Slaugh, all of Vernal; Hyrum Slaugh, Salt Lake City and Mrs. L. C. (Wilda) Allen, Auburn, California; five chidlren preceded her in death. She also has 41 grandchildren, 136 great-grandchildren and 63 great-great-grandchildren, making a total posterity of 245. She also has three half-sisters and one half-brother, Mrs. Ida Bowthorpe and Mrs. Jennie Watkins, both of Vernal; Mrs. Amanda Watkins, Salt Lake City and Donald Kolb, Roosevelt.

Bishop Don Gardiner conducted the funeral services. Ray Nelson gave the prayer at the mortuary. Dian Abplanalp played the organ prelude and postlude music/

Carl Kallgren gave the opening prayer. The choir sang "I Need Thee Every Hour," "Lead Me Gently Home" and "Sweet Hour of Prayer." Larry Smuin and Hyrum Slaugh were the speakers.

Dan Allen gave the benediction and the grave was dedicated by Elijah Jackson.

Pallbearers were Glen, Melbern, Perry and Leon Slaugh, Max Nelson and Hyrum Smuin. Burial was in the Vernal Memorial Park Cemetery.

Out-of-town people attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Allen, Auburn, California; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Slaugh, Mr. and Mrs. Glen H. Slaugh, Mrs. Keith Carter, Mrs. Charles Timothy, Mrs. Amanda Watkins, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Bolander and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Watkins, all of Salt Lake City.

Mr. and Mrs Kermit Brimhall and Mr. and Mrs. Dal Allred, Ogden; Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Walker and Mr. and Mrs John Einerson, Pleasant Grove; J. Victor Nelson and Max Nelson and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Nelson, Orem; Mr. and Mrs Robert Brimhall, Provo; Mr. and Mrs. James Nelson, Spanish Fork.
