O.Z. Smith Rites Are Held
Oscar Zellon Smith, 65, died at the George County Hospital Wednesday after a lengthy illness.

Until shortly before his death Smith was a partner in an insurance and real estate business, also serving as chairman of the George County Democratic Executive Committee.

A former Lucedale High School Superintendent, Smith at one time held the post of veterans service officer for the county. He was a graduate of Mississippi State College, and received his M.A. at George Peabody University in Nashville.

He was commander of the local American Legion Post, Howell Grantham Post, for several years, a World War I Army veteran and a past president of the Lucedale Rotary Club. He also headed the Federal Housing Administration in this area when the first homes here were built under that program.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, from the First Baptist Church. Officiating at the rites were Rev. Van Hardin, of Moss Point, assisted by Rev. Roy Lane of Lucedale Methodist Church. Interment was in Magnolia Cemetery, Lucedale, George County Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Alyne Bacon Smith, Lucedale; two daughters, Mrs. M.D. Danford, Oak Ridge, Tenn,; Mrs. Arnold Brashier, Quitman; one son, Rayburn Smith, Birmingham; four sisters, Mrs. E.F. Coleman, Purvis; Mrs. J.E. Coker, State Line; Mrs. Joe Skinner, Albuquerque, N.M.; Mrs. Joe Kittrell, State Line; two brothers, Mr. H.P. Smith, Leakesville and Mr. E.D. Smith, State Line, and seven grandchildren.

Active pallbearers were Curtis Miller, J.W. Wilson, Everett O'Neal, J.W. Griffin, Harold Williams and W.T. Bounds. Honorary pallbearers were Deacons and Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church and directors of the First Savings and Loan Association.
