My Gramma...
married my Grampa Johnson in 1924. They had four children together; Melvin (Johnny) Frank Jr.(b. 1925), Richard Anthony (b. 1928), David Arthur (b. 1937), and Donna Marie (b. 1939 d. 1964). The retired to Arizona, USA.
After the death of their daughter and son-in-law, Gramma and Grampa raised Donna and Leroy's two older children, Marilyn and Mike in Arizona. I was adopted by Richard and Lorraine (Kriske) Johnson, Donna's brother and sister-in-law in Wisconsin. Sometimes, I would get jealous because Marilyn, Mike, Gramma and Grampa got to spend so much time together.
We would visit a couple times a year. My favorite memory of her is when she would send me out to the lemon tree. I would climb the tree, pick a couple lemons and then Gramma, my sister and I would make homemade lemonade and homemade lefsa (with the leftover potatoes from the day before) together.
And, thus, she earned the title of "Best Cook and Lefse Maker on the Planet."
