Obituary
Collene Budoff-Call created "Midnight Santa" to help needy
Friday, August 30,2002-- Three years ago, when Collene Budoff- Call learned about several families in her Kissimmee community who weren't going to have many gifts under their Christmas tree, she decided to do something about it.

With her own money, Budoff - Call and her family organized a Christmas for about seven families, providing them with baskets full of gifts, baked goods and even a surprise visit from Santa and his elves.

Budoff - Call, 52, died Wednesday.

Born in Ann Arbor, Mich., she moved to Central Florida in 1973.

"She was known as "Mom" to everybody," said her daughter Kristen Call of Kissimmee. "She adopted lost souls her whole life and made them her family."

Budoff - Call referred to her event as "Midnight Santa," and in it's second year, she received help from her church. Budoff - Call then was able to ask businesses for donations to help the program.

With the donations, Midnight Santa " provided baskets to about 10 families, her daughter said. By the third year, she was helping about 15 families.

Budoff - Call baked about 80 pounds of bread last Christmas, her daughter said, along with peanut brittle.

However, her giving wasn't limited to just the holiday season. After picnics, Budoff - Call would give the left-over food to the homeless living in Kissimmee, her daughter said.

"She freely gave love," Call said. ""She loved people for who they were."

Budoff - Call was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter - day Saints of Kissimmee.

Survivors also include her husband, Jeffery Call; son, Ronnie Vittello ( who was a family friend for years and like a son)of Pennsylvania; daughter, Jennifer Moye of Orlando; sister Beverly Holley of Highlands,N.C.; brother, Michael Budoff of Kissimmee; and 10 grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by National Cremation Society Beacon Chapter, Winter Park.
