He was born on February 25, 1924 at the Lutz Family Farm, the son of John and Mary Anna (Hartman) Lutz. Philip attended school at St. Andrew School in Wright. He married Barbara Downey on January 25, 1950 at St. Andrew Church, Wright. Mr. Lutz farmed in the Wright area all of his life. He was also an electrician, carpenter, and avid gardener. During his later years, he worked at Waters True Value in Dodge City.
He was an active member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Wright, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1862, where he was a former Grand Knight, District Deputy, and a member of Rev. John Handly 4th Degree Assembly. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge, Dodge City, and the Wright Senior Center.
Survivors include: his wife, Barbara Lutz of Wright, two sons, Phil Lutz of Karlin, Michigan, and Steve Joe Lutz and wife Kathleen of Wright; four daughters, Mary Catherine (Cathy) Harper of Defiance, Ohio, Ruth Morton and husband Allen of Wright, Rose Chaaban of Lawrence, and Joyce Koehn and husband Lyle of Wichita; one sister, Lucile Kitten of Dodge City; and one brother, William ( Bill) Lutz of Lamar, Colorado; 18 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six sisters, Sr. M. Mark, CSJ, Sr. M. Canisius, CSJ, Josephine Strecker, Sr. Mary Jane, CSJ, Emma Burke, and Catherine Knoeber; one brother, John; a grandson Sgt. Ben Morton and his wife Elaina.
Vigill service will be held at St. Andrew Catholic Church on Sunday, Nov 30, 2008 at 7:30PM. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Andrew Catholic Church on Monday Dec 1, 2008 at 10:30AM with Rev. Robert A. Schremmer presiding. Burial will follow at St. Andrews Cemetery in Wright. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, on Sunday, Nov 30, 2008 from noon-6PM.
