Martha was born in Perry County, Mississippi. She married James E. Pitts 12 Jan. 1843 in Perry County. SJames and Martha were the parents of nine children. Two of there children left Mississippi by wagon train and settled in Nacogdoches County, Texas. These two children were Nehemiah and James Norvell Pitts.
My Dad told me, there was stories about reporters who was trying to get information on the Knight family for a book. The book was most likely "Echo of the Black Horn", written by Ethel Knight. It was about Newt Knight and his gang in the time of the Civil War in Jones County and the shame he had put on his family and Jones County, MS. They avoided these reporters, for the fear of what would happen to them, if people found out she was connected to the Knight family.
