Services For Mrs. Clark Briggs Here
Death Was Sudden While Making Short Visit With Relatives In North Bend
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Sprinview, Monday afternoon for Mrs. Clark Briggs, wife of Editor Briggs of the Garden County News, Oshkosh, former editor of the Springview Herald. REV Peter Vos of the Congregational Church, Ainsworth, officiated at the services.
Death from a cerebral hemorhage came to Mrs. Briggs early Friday morning at the home of an aunt, Mrs. Elizabeth Robinson in North Bend, where Mr. and Mrs. Briggs enroute to Omaha had stopped overnight. She passed away about an hour after she was stricken.
Mrs. Briggs, who has been in ill health the past few years, under went a major operation in Omaha six months ago, at which time her condition remained quite serious for many days. However, her health appeared to be improving since that time, and she was complying with the physician's advice to return to Omaha at this time for a medical check-up.
Of Mrs. Briggs' passing it may truly be said that death has claimed the life of a great personality. Such qualities as thoughtfulness, friendliness, tolerance and unselfishness goes far to make greatness, and all of these Mrs. Briggs possessed. Not only was she a comforter and adviser, she was an aid to many in need with no thought of any reward. Always she met her friends and associates with a smile and cheerful greeting. She was a warm friend to the aged, sending forth from her sweet goodness only thoughts to make others happy. She was particularly fond of children and enjoyed greatly the companionship of youth, which through her advise and example, she endeavored to guide into the paths of Christianity and good citizenship.
During her residence in Springview she lent a willing and helpful hand to church and civic organizations. Although her residence has been elsewhere for the last eight years, she has always considered Springview her home and expressed the disire to return here to spend the remainder of her life.
Those fortunate to have known Mrs. Briggs have lost a true and faithful friend.
Eva J. Rich, daughter of Van and Hulda Rich, was born at Scribner, Nebraska, August 14, 1876, and passed away at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Elizabeth Robinson, at North Bend, nebraska, Friday morning, April 26, 1940, at the age of 63 years, 8 months, and 12 days. At the time of her passing her home was Oshkosh, Nebraska.
February 24, 1897, she was united in marriage to Clark Briggs at Scribner, nebraska, and to this union four children were born, Harold and Gerald, who died in infancy. To mourn her passing she leaves her husband, one daughter, mrs. George A. Hallock of Springview, nebraska, one sone, J. B. Briggs, of Oshkosh, Nebraska, seven grandchildren and two brothers, H. V. Rich, Scribner, Nebraska, and A. W. Rich, of Ovid, Colorado.
In her girlhood Mrs. Briggs accepted the Christian faith and became a member of the Congregational Church at Scribner, Nebraska, and held fast to its tenents to the end. She was always a faithful wife and mother, putting her religion and the welfare of her family before all other interests. A kind neighbor, ready to help in time of need and always loyal to her friends, of who she had many.
Loving, affectionate, tender and kind,
Keeping the comforts of others in mind,
Never too busy to cheer with a smile,
Generous, thoughtful, and sweet all the while.
