Maggie was preceded in death by her husband, the late Burley Desoto Howell.

While in her fifties, after losing her husband, she returned to school and became an LVN. She worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas for more than ten years, before retiring to her home in Orange, Texas where she and her late husband made their home for more than forty years. She moved to Houston in her ninety's to be closer to her son, Dr. Jimmy Frank Howell.

She was an avid traveler well into her seventies. Each year she made trips back to her home in Winnfield, Louisiana. She made trips abroad to Europe, Turkey, and China with her family in her later years.

Survivors include her brother, Lloyd Collins and wife, Evelyn Collins; her son, Dr. Jimmy Frank Howell and wife, Roberta Howell and her daughter, Billie June Howell Murphy; granddaughters, June Anita Hayes, Elizabeth Howell LeNoble and husband, Christian LeNoble, Elise Howell Houren, and husband Jay Houren, Deanne Howell Dettling, and husband David Dettling and Jennifer Howell Caspary, and husband Todd Caspary; grandsons, Leslie Howell Murphy and wife, Leisha Murphy, James Frank Howell and wife, Stephanie Howell and Robert Collins Howell; great granddaughters, Elise Marie Houren, Catherine Adelaide Houren, Carolyn Louise Houren, Melissa Elizabeth Caspary, Sarah Caroline Caspary, Ann Estelle LeNoble, and Brennan Elizabeth Howell; great grandsons, Trey Hays and wife, Vanessa Hays and Calvin Hays, James Joseph LeNoble, Jonathan Bentley Dettling, Ross Anthony Dettling, Samuel Selim Caspary, Reid Gerard Caspary, and Robert Collins Howell, Jr.; great great grandsons, Williams Joseph Hays, Gus Jamison and Grant Wilkenson as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
