She was born in Covington, Indiana to Clayton and Nellie Hughes Holycross. She married Melvin Blackford on Aug. 25, 1945 in Danville, Il. He survives along with two children, Connie (Ron) Spicer of Bismarck and William (Cheryl Groppi) Blackford of Danville; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marlene (Harold) Coonradt of Penrose, Colorado and a sister-in-law, Joanne Holycross of Jackson, Tennessee.
