Albert Hiram Gibbs was born 6 January 1852 in Salem, Henry County, Iowa, He was the oldest son and second of nine children born to abolitionist judge and sheriff, Nelson Gibbs, and Mary Louisa Button Gibbs. Albert moved to Georgetown, Vermilion County, Illinois around 1879 and lived on the farm of Hiram and Sarah Lewman Dye. He married their oldest daughter, Mary Catherine "Kittie" Dye on 10 October 1883 in Georgetown. The young couple began a family farming operation in Riola, Carroll Township, Vermilion County, Illinois and were the parents of four children, Fred (1884-1962), Wilbur (1886-1975), Nora (1891-1965) and Mary Addie (1896-1974). He started a grocery business in Indianola in 1900 and built a home on the opposite side of the town square. His sons operated the business for many years. Albert lived with his daughter, Nora, son-in-law Chester Baum, grand daughter Kathryn and great grandson, Jack in Danville, Illinois in the later years of his life. He died at Lake View Memorial Hospital on November 17, 1938 at the age of 86.
