Ferrel Benton "Pete" Harmon, 87 years of Jane, Missouri departed this life on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Missouri.

Pete entered this life on April 22, 1921 in Jane, Missouri, one of twelve children born to the union of Walter Daniel and Oca (Clark) Harmon. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. After being honorably discharged he returned to McDonald County where he owned and operated the McDonald County Dairy Company located in Noel. He later owned and operated the IGA grocery store in Bolivar, Missouri, was a contract Meat Cutter in Wichita, Kansas and owned a marina in Branson, Missouri. After selling the marina he moved to a farm in Granby, Missouri and worked as a meat cutter in Neosho. He also owned and operated the Jane Store. For twelve years he was employed by the McDonald County School District as Head Custodian of the White Rock School, a position he dearly loved. Even after officially retiring he washed dishes at the Jane Café. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and watching the news.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of thirty-one years, Elsie Harmon in June of 1981; two step-children, Robert Walker and Sue Yates; and a nephew, Rocky Harmon.

Pete is survived by a step-daughter, Judy Hilton and husband, Duane, of Wichita, Kansas; six step-grandchildren, Pam Chewning, Dave Mosby, Bob Mosby, Greg Yates, Jeff Yates and James Yates; several step-great grandchildren and step-great great grandchildren; a sister, Ava Hudgens of Carpentaria, California; and fifteen nieces and nephews, Dorothy Cowan, Patty Burton, Jack Johnson, Peggy Humphrey, Ted Marrs, Joe Harmon, Carol Bird, Lou Harmon, Bill Harmon, Vicki Hopkins, Mike Harmon, Bobbie Harmon, Mark Harmon, Diane Dufrense and Janet Jones.

Funeral services for Ferrel Benton "Pete" Harmon are 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2008 in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Bro. Hank Gorman officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Jane Cemetery. Memorials are being directed to the American Cancer Society and contributions may be left at the funeral home.
