Miles Richard Laughter was one of nine children of Robert William Laughter and Elizabeth P Barlett Laughter. On May 1863 his father Robert died of wounds from a battle in Richmond, Virginia during the Civil War. On the 27 of Jan 1864, 8 months after his fathers death at the age of 20 Miles jointed the Civil War by enlisting in the 24th North Carolina Infantry, Company D. Miles was discharged from the Confederate States Army on 9 Apr 1865.
On 11 Mar 1869 Miles married Rebecca Ann Rose in Halifax Co., NC. Together they had 7 children; 6 Daughters and 1 Son. All of which are listed below with their spouses. Miles lived to the ripe old age of 80 dying 13 May 1923 in Mannings, Nash Co., NC almost a year before his wife Rebecca died on 28 Mar 1924 in Mannings, Nash Co., NC.
