Emanuel Sterner, a life-long citizen of Jefferson, was born March 26, 1858, and died in the Hanover Hospital, December 20, 1945, aged 87 years, 8 months and 24 days.
For many years Mr. Sterner conducted a mercantile store in Jefferson. He was of a genial disposition, always cheerful and optimistic, and was deeply respected by all who knew him. He was a member of the United Brethren Church of Jefferson.
The funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, December 23, 1945, with brief services at the home of his son, Elmer Sterner, and further services in the United Brethren Church. His pastor, Rev. Miller S. Schmuck, was assisted by Rev. Paul D. Yoder. The latter spoke on the text, Luke 2:29. Burial was made in the Jefferson Cemetery.
