Sarah Jane Moffett eldest daughter of Jno M. and Sarah A. Moffett was born on May 23, 1856 at Red Oak Cedar County, Iowa.
The family resided at Red Oak until 1885 when having been deprived of their father, moved to Tipton, where a few years later they were called upon to give up their invalid mother.
From early childhood the little sister, lovingly called "Kittie" by the six big brothers, was a great sufferer as early as four years of age marking the beginning of a ever nervous trouble.
In spite of this misfortune, she was ever willing to wait upon those who needed her care and attention, many times returning from the bed side of a sick friend, to spend many days in severest suffering.
The was educated at Red Oak and at Iowa City academy and spent some time in teaching but was obliged to discontinue her work to help care for the frail mother.
In the spring of 1898 the family consisting of James S., Laura A., and "Kittie" moved to Hagers Grove, Mo., in the vain hope that the change might restore health to Kittie and her brother James.
For awhile she was able to go about a little and enjoy company but after a fall which caused her to be lame, she gradually grew worse until she was obliged to give up going out and contented herself with doing those little tasks which loving hands can do.
In 1886 she united with the Presbyterian church at Tipton, Iowa and ever remained a faithful member of that church.
During all the years of her suffering, Miss Kit was cared for most tenderly by her only sister, Laura, who has been spared to comfort her brothers.
The Moffett family consisted of eight children, George J., the eldest brother, who has been one of the family at Hagers Grove during the past two years that he might assist in the care of the sick one, James S., a veteran of the gold field, John, who died in early youth, Samuel C., who died at Tipton in 1906, Horace C., who died at Hagers Grove in the spring of 1900, William W., who lives near Tipton, Charlie C., the youngest son, now deceased and Laura A., the youngest child of the family. God was good to this family and when Kittie's suffering could no longer be endured by the pain racked body, he kindly took her home to dwell with him where there is no pain, and just as the day was ending on Sunday May 3, 1908, the spirit took its solitary flight.
