Rites Set for R. C. Carter
Richard Clyde Carter Sr., 70, of Orangeburg died at 11:15 a.m. Thursday at his home at 192 Carolina Ave., N.W. He had been in poor health for several years.
Born in Florence, Mr. Carter was the son of James H. Carter and Ellen Johnson Carter. He was a member of the Union Methodist Church at Cope, the Woodmen of the World, and the K of P. He worked as an Agent of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad at Cope from February of 1908 until a year and a half ago when he retired due to ill health and moved to Orangeburg.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Minnie Rogers Carter; six daughters, Mrs. Richard S. Jennings, and Mrs. Kinard Smoak, both of Orangeburg, Mrs. Dixon Ulmer, North Augusta, Mrs. Mary C. Singleton, Birmingham, Ala., Mrs. Lloyd Williams, Tucson, Ariz., and Mrs. Francis Wise, of Trenton; two sons, Richard C. Carter Jr., Tullahoma, Tenn., and Rogers Carter of Hanford, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. R. E. Yellott, Towson, Md., and Mrs. C. T. Boyd of Florence; two brothers, Dr. T. J. Carter, Spartanburg, and L. E. Carter of Florence; and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Dukes Harley Funeral home with his pastor, Rev. A. A. Jones officiating, assisted by the Rev. E. S. Jones. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Mr. Carter's nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be J. F. Cleckley, B. J. Blackwell, J. C. Hatchett, H. S. Segrest, Dr. J. L. Wells, R. L. Ashe, L. T. DesChamps, George A. Hutto, Dr. Vance W. Brabham, and members of the Men's Bible Class of the Union Methodist Church of Cope.
