The colorful life of Grace Ellen (Byrum) Kelley came to a timely end Wednesday, August 4, 2004, at the the Mennonite Home in Albany, Oregon.

The daughter of Charles Benjamin and Clara Edna (Lathrop) Byrum, Grace was born March 19, 1915, in Monre County, Iowa.

Her family history in America dates back to the year 1610. Many towns were named after the Byrams, as recorded in the book, "Byrams in America", by John Arnold Byram.

Grace worked as a telephone operator before she married Lloyd Ransom Kelley on November 18, 1938, and she lived in Blakesburg, Iowa, during World War II when Lloyd was serving with the 6th Infantry Divison.

After his return they raised their family together in Hedrick, Iowa. Grace worked for many years at the Mahaska County Hospital in nearby Oskaloos from where she later retired.

After her loving husband passed on November 1, 1972, she moved with her son, Lloyd, to Barefoot, Idaho, for a time. Grace then moved to Albany with her daughter Mary seven years ago.

Grace's son, Wade, writes: "We all will miss this spunky, spirited lady that colored our lives with many joys and laughter over her time with us. May we all learn form her that life is only what we put into it. She also wanted us to take our time here on earth and enjoy every momment."
