He was a son of Robert and Alma (Bollenbacher) Stephenson. On Apr 20, 1947, he married Sarah "Gene" Harrison, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by three sons, Tom (Judy), Rockford, David (Charlene), Rockford and Mark (Twyla), Lake Forest, CA; four brothers; a sister; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Funeral services will be held at Chattanooga Methodist Church, with the Rev. Steve Oliver officiating.
