William Tate (31941021)
Suggested edit: There are no historical records to substantiate William as Davidson's first name. He is enumerated as Davidson in the 1830, 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 US Census records; currently, no one has found an 1840 US Census record. He is also identified as Davidson in "Descendants of Robert Tate Sr. of Russell County, VA 1724 – 1794." This is an extensively researched work that is available at http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~taitandtate/genealogy/Lin/roberttatesr.htm although I have found some errors in it. There are five public family trees on Ancestry and one does have his first name as William, but I reviewed all of the references that were attached and none of them substantiated this. The only place his name is "Davison" is on the crude stone headstone, but it appears this was an unfortunate error that someone tried to correct by placing a second marker with the correct spelling.
