Pat's wife Mavis, preceded him in death November 2005. Pat and Mavis were married 1948 in Portland, Oregon. Also preceded in death were his sons Robert and Richard Murtha. He is survived by his daughter Barbara Marin (son-in-law Robert Marin) of Fairfield, granddaughters Andrea (Matt Mills), Sara, Cynda; great-grandchildren Grayson, River, Ethan; and many beloved nieces/nephews and family.
Attended Oregon State University and Butler University. All-State basketball player (1940). Involved in many organizations in the community; Knights of Columbus and St. Vincent de Paul Society to name a few, as he was always helping others. Pat loved playing horseshoes and was a State Champion.
He served in the U.S. Army, Army Air Corps/Forces during WWII, and the U.S. Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam wars. Over 30 years of service, he retired in 1976 at TAFB, Chief Master Sergeant, Flight Engineer. One of his many accomplishments while in the Air Force; Pat was a member of the U.S. Air Force crew that established a World Aeronautical Record called Operation SwiftLift.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, contributions can be made to the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 2700 Dover Avenue, Fairfield, CA 94533.
Graveside service will be held Thursday, February 3, 2022 11:00 AM at St. Alphonsus Cemetery, 1707 Union Avenue, Fairfield.
