Elva Larene Crawford Twitchell, 98, passed away in Henderson, Nov. 22, 2008. She was born Oct. 24, 1910, in Hurricane, Utah, to William Louis Crawford and Mary Jane Bean Crawford, and grew up within the present boundaries of Zion National Park. Elva married Clin Henry Twitchell in 1929, and they bagan their married life in that beautiful place. When the national park boundary was changed in 1931, Elva and her family relocated to neighboring Springdale, Utah, where she lived most of her adult life in the canyon she loved so dearly. Elva was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions in the church. She was also active in the Zion Canyon Lioness Club and served many years as a registrar of voters. Elva became well known for her homemade chili that she served to all who came to vote at her home. However, her greatest love and activity centered on her family, which presently consists of seven children; 31 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren. Elva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant daughter; two sisters; and a brother. She is survived by her children, Clin (Lynette) Twitchell of Valencia, Calif.; Neil (Wanda) Twitchell of Henderson; Fane (Joyce) Twitchell of Central, Utah, Louis Dee Twitchell of Nampa, Idaho, Sharon T. Young of Springdale, Utah, Arta Vee T. McLaughlin of Keller, Texas, and Janet T. Hollis of Springdale, Utah; her brother, J. L. (Fern) Crawford of St. George, Utah; and her sisters, Beth Dennett of Cedar City, Utah, and Lily Russell of Henderson.
