Mary Kathryn Jones was born on October 14, 1944 the daughter of Kenneth R and Kathryn B. Jones. While Kathryn was pregnant her son Jack affectionately called his unborn baby sister "The Kid". Mary Kathryn was named for her father's Grandmother Miner and mother's Grandmother Gibbs. The happy family was reunited when Ken returned from World War II. The four seemed to have a perfect life but there were some difficult days ahead. In 1947, Mary Kathryn was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer. Despite expert diagnosis and care from places like Sloan Kettering, on July 11, 1949, Mary Kathryn died and with her some of Ken's boundless energy and Kathryn's joy. Her legacy is left in the life of her brother who was born to fill the emptiness in their lives. Though I never knew my sister, she will always be a part of me.
