MINER KILLED
URIAH APLIN STRUCK ON THE HEAD BY CONTENTS OF HOISTING BUCKET
Uriah Aplin a miner employed in the Somers mines at Senecaville met with an accident yesterday evening while at work in the mine which resulted in his death. Mr. Aplin at the time was at work at the bottom of the shaft and was watching the hoisting bucket as it was being drawn up. The bucket struck one of the timbers of the shaft and was tipped up letting the contents fall to the bottom striking Mr. Aplin on the head killing him instantly. This was expected to be the last trip of the bucket as arrangements had been completed to place the hoisting cage in position. Mr. Aplin was about fifty-five years of age and leaves a wife and six children to mourn his death. He was a well known man in Senecaville, popular with his fellow workmen and employers. At the time lightning struck the powder house of this mine Mr. Aplin was at home and saw the lightning descending. Coroner Vorhies has been notified of the accidnet and will hold an inquest.
